Tanzania’s largest national park (30,893 km²), formerly known as Selous Game Reserve before much of it was rebranded as Nyerere National Park. The Rufiji River and its network of interconnected lakes form the lifeblood of this vast wilderness — one of Africa’s great, less-crowded safari destinations.

Wildlife
The river system holds huge numbers of crocodiles and hippos. The park supports all the Big Five, with good lion and leopard populations, plus occasional wild dog and cheetah sightings.

Getting There
Reached by light aircraft from Dar es Salaam (about 45 minutes) or by road (5–6 hours), making it flexible for both time-conscious and overland travelers.
