9-DAY TANZANIA MIGRATION SAFARI

Package Overview

This 9-day safari is designed for travelers who want an in-depth exploration of Tanzania’s Northern Circuit with a strong focus on the Great Migration. Beginning in Arusha, the journey moves through Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and central Serengeti before settling into the southern Ndutu area — one of the best places on Earth to witness migration action, particularly calving season. With extra days built in for wildlife immersion and a relaxed final day in Arusha before departure, this itinerary is ideal for travelers who want depth, flexibility, and a genuine sense of place rather than a rushed circuit.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival – Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), where you’ll be met and welcomed by your Mbogo Expeditions representative. Transfer to your hotel in Arusha for check-in and a relaxed evening to recover from your journey. Accommodation: Arusha

After breakfast, depart Arusha for Lake Manyara National Park. Spend the day on a game drive through the park’s groundwater forest, open woodlands, and along the shores of the alkaline lake — known for its tree-climbing lions, large elephant herds, and abundant flamingos. Overnight near Lake Manyara or in Karatu. Accommodation: Karatu

Early morning descent into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive across its floor, home to one of Africa’s densest concentrations of wildlife, including the “Big Five” and resident black rhinos. In the afternoon, ascend and continue on to the Serengeti, arriving in time for an evening game drive en route to camp. Overnight in the Serengeti. Accommodation: Serengeti

Full day exploring the Seronera Valley, the ecological heart of the Serengeti and one of the best year-round areas for predator sightings. Morning and afternoon game drives in search of lion, leopard, and cheetah, along with migration herds when present in the area. Overnight in central Serengeti. Accommodation: Serengeti

After breakfast, drive south toward the Ndutu area, straddling the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Game drive en route, watching for wildlife as the landscape transitions into the short-grass plains that draw the migration during calving season. Overnight in the Ndutu area. Accommodation: Ndutu

Full day immersed in the Ndutu plains, one of the top locations in East Africa for predator sightings and, during the December–March calving season, newborn wildebeest and intense predator activity. Morning and afternoon game drives exploring the marshes, woodlands, and open plains of the area. Overnight in Ndutu. Accommodation: Ndutu

A second full day in Ndutu to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities, explore different areas of the plains, and take advantage of changing light and animal movement patterns. Overnight in Ndutu. Accommodation: Ndutu

After a final morning game drive, depart Ndutu and begin the drive back to Arusha, passing through the Ngorongoro Highlands and Karatu along the way. Arrive in Arusha in the evening and check in to your hotel. Accommodation: Arusha

Enjoy a relaxed free day to explore Arusha at your own pace — visit local markets, cultural sites, or simply unwind before your departure. In the evening, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight home.
